Miller Hull

Katie Popolow

AIA, Principal

Seattle Studio

Spending most of her formative years building a family cabin, Katie developed a muscle memory early on for creating. “I was a participant in every single aspect of construction: I dug trenches, became proficient with wood framed construction, pulled electrical wire, and installed all manner of interior and exterior finishes.” The sequence of construction, the ways materials come together, and the ability to envision design opportunities became innate to her, and when Katie decided to pursue architecture, it was clear her past had positioned her well.

For the past thirty years, Katie’s knowledge of architecture has widened through a range of diverse projects and a deep respect for all those involved in the design and construction of the built environment. Known as a “quintessential” architect, Katie now has a firm grasp on these many different elements, and is applauded by her colleagues for her ability to manage incredibly complicated projects while maintaining scrupulous sight of the details. As the profession becomes increasingly specialized, Katie’s comprehensive knowledge sets her apart, enriching her projects and bettering her teams. Most recently, she has returned to Seattle from San Diego where she co-managed Miller Hull’s second studio, an experience that furthered her skills in helping others develop as architects.
