***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
SEATTLE, April 30, 2020 – In March, The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP, an award-winning architecture, planning, urban and interior design firm, was selected as the architect for predesign services of the new South Laboratory Addition for the Washington State Department of Health, Public Health Laboratories located in Shoreline, Washington.
The Washington State Public Health Laboratories provides diagnostic and analytical services for the assessment and surveillance of infectious, communicable, genetic, and chronic diseases and environmental health concerns. Operated by the Washington State Department of Health, this facility is the only health lab of its kind in the state.
To meet the current and projected demand for environmental laboratories to serve the State of Washington, the South Laboratory Addition Predesign intends to expand the campus to provide state-of-the-art testing laboratories, administrative space and a new Media Center. This growth will provide open, flexible laboratory space, advanced instrumentation and testing procedures, while improving the quality of the working environment for laboratory staff and administration.
At this vital time in our society’s health, the new South Laboratory Addition predesign is of utmost consequence and Miller Hull is dedicated to helping execute a successful project and continuing to support the Department of Health’s mission to protect and improve the health of all people in Washington state.
“This project will have an enduring positive impact to the safety of the citizens of Washington state,” said Miller Hull Principal Rich Whealan, project manager for the predesign. “Whether it is our shared expectation that the food we feed our children is safe, the safety of our drinking water, or other biological or radiological threats, we can count on the Public Health Lab to safeguard the day-to-day lives of all Washington citizens.”
The predesign services for this project include programming and preliminary design for a 32,000-gross-square-foot laboratory, including supporting office, storage and a media center and conference facility for the Public Health Laboratories. The predesign will establish strategies for net zero energy and all-electric power, per Washington State Executive Order 18-01.
