Crystal is an architect at Miller Hull Partnership and has been a long-time champion for promoting diversity within the profession. As an architect, she carefully considers the needs of the user she designs for, infusing each project with an enhanced sense of humanity and compassion. While serving as Co-Chair of AIA Seattle’s Diversity Roundtable, she championed the Diversity by Design exhibit, a showcase for underrepresented architects, which highlighted the experience and impact community involvement has on the architect of color, the design of the building, and the community in which the building resides.
Crystal pairs her AIA involvement with her community engagement as a vocal advocate for meaningful change. She serves on the board for Sawhorse Revolution, a Seattle non-profit whose mission is to foster confident, community-oriented youth through the power of carpentry and craft. She was able to forge a connection with Sawhorse Revolution and AIA’s Diversity Roundtable pairing youth with mentors for three design/ build programs in underserved communities including Africatown Center’s Garden Shed, and Danny Woo Community Garden Shed. Crystal has also been involved with NOMA since she was a college student, and served on NOMA NW’s board, helping to create and promote the Call-to-Action Pledge, and volunteering every year in NOMA’s Project Pipeline summer camp.
