8/2025: Mass Timber Group Summit — Matt’s Place 3.0 Panel – Modular Pre-Fab ALS Housing: Alex Zink

Time: 12:30pm - 1:30pm

This panel brings together architect Alex Zink (Miller Hull) and modular prefab specialist Andy Barrett (ToolboxNW) for an honest, practical look at the evolution between Matt’s Place 2.0 single-family and 3.0 multi-family—two ALS care homes built with very different mass timber strategies.

Attendees will hear firsthand what went right, what didn’t, and why the team moved from panelized CLT assemblies to full volumetric modules. The session will explore lessons learned in manufacturing coordination, transportation logistics, and system detailing, plus highlight the architectural and human benefits unlocked through a modular mass timber approach.

About Matt’s Place Foundation:Founded by Marine Corps veteran Matthew Wild following his ALS diagnosis, Matt’s Place Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to providing hope, housing, and assistance to families living with ALS. Their mission is to alleviate the financial and emotional burdens of the disease by offering fully accessible, rent-free smart homes equipped with assistive technologies. These homes are designed to support independence and dignity for patients and their families throughout the progression of ALS.

Whether you’re in early design or deep in delivery, this session offers real-world insights for anyone exploring modular mass timber as a solution for high-performance, deeply human buildings.
