The Miller Hull Partnership is deeply saddened to share the passing of Norman H. Strong, FAIA—former Managing Partner, mentor, and a guiding force in the firm’s history.

Norm joined Miller Hull in 1979 as one of its earliest employees and became a partner in 1985. As Managing Partner from 1994, he helped shape the firm’s growth with a steady, thoughtful approach—building the systems and culture that allowed design excellence to thrive. His leadership was instrumental in guiding Miller Hull to receive the AIA Firm of the Year Award in 2003 and in establishing the firm’s San Diego studio.

Known for his calm presence and clarity of thought, Norm believed that strong business practices were essential to meaningful architecture. He led with integrity, generosity, and a deep commitment to mentorship, supporting generations of architects as they built their careers. As Founding Partner Dave Miller reflects, “The early years at Miller Hull were challenging, mysterious, and magical—through those years Norm’s rational mind kept us centered. As a young partner, he was wise beyond his years.”

Norm’s impact on Miller Hull is lasting. He helped define not only how the firm operates, but who we are. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
