***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
SEATTLE (Feb. 1, 2019) — In November 2018, The Miller Hull Partnership, an international, award-winning architecture and planning firm, was selected to design the new Health Sciences Education Building at the University of Washington.
The Health Sciences Education Building will create flexible learning spaces, leverage modern technologies and generate a broad array of environments that can adapt to changing pedagogical needs, as well as provide interprofessional education and collaboration for all six Health Sciences colleges.
The selected proposal was submitted by the Lease Crutcher Lewis / Miller Hull / The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) team, which will work as one unit to complete the project using a progressive design-build delivery method.
This is the second design-build project Lewis and Miller Hull are teaming on for the University of Washington, the first being the Population Health Facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020 with Lewis leading construction and Miller Hull leading design.
Working closely with the University, Lewis and Miller Hull will lead the overall management of the Health Sciences Education Building, continuing the successful techniques developed for the Population Health Facility. Miller Hull and SLAM will operate as one design team, utilizing each firm’s expertise throughout the project.
“We are very excited to continue our relationship with both the University of Washington and Lewis,” said Sian Roberts, partner at Miller Hull. “We are equally excited to have SLAM as part of this team to leverage their deep programming, planning and design knowledge of health science education facilities and create an integrated learning environment that accomplishes all the objectives the University has for this project.”
The approximate total cost of the project is expected to be between $80 and $90 million. The scheduled completion date for the Health Sciences Education Building is to be determined.
