The Bayside Community Center focuses on the revitalization of an old brick structure, into Linda Vistas new Community Center Hub. Its need for a flexible space was a key component to making Bayside CC an active center. Creating flexibility while preserving the structural integrity and aesthetics of the building became the driving force to this design.

Design goals included preserving existing brick structure, giving the building a new sense of entry, creating a flexible space for Bayside’s program activities and designing a flexible outdoor space.

The history of this building has left fingerprints revealing how it has been adapted to its use. After discovering its origin as a post office, then a convenience store, preserving Bayside’s brick structure became an early goal in celebrating the history of the building as well as exposing original openings of the elevations.

A central pavilion that creates a threshold between private and public functions of the community center. Its flexibility provides Bayside the ability to have multiple community programs occurring simultaneously. The old post office loading dock will be transformed into a performance stage that can convert into an enclosed classroom to serve as additional interior program space when not being used as a stage.
