The new Fire Station 31 will provide a healthy, safe, and operationally efficient facility for the Seattle Fire Department. Designed for the firefighters who will live and work there, the three-story station includes four drive-through apparatus bays and prioritizes well-being through carefully sequenced decontamination zones, healthy materials, and smart lighting and alerting systems that minimize physical stress.
Set into a narrow, sloped site in the Northgate neighborhood, the design balances functionality with civic presence. Simple forms and artful materials respond to the residential context, while curated views connect occupants to the surrounding landscape and distant Cascades. Shaped through extensive collaboration with the Seattle Fire Department, the station reflects both current needs and long-term resilience.
