Designer Jake LaBarre, will be speaking about “Learning from Practice,” at Dalhousie University’s annual Architecture Professional Practice Week.
Jake is an Architect, Educator, and Builder from Seattle, Washington. Originally from rural Minnesota, Jake has over 10 years of hands-on building experience with JAS Design Build and as a sole practitioner. Jake has a Bachelors of Arts in Physics from St Olaf College and an MArch from the University of Washington.
A licensed architect in Washington State, he works for the award-winning firm, the Miller Hull Partnership, as a project architect, and project manager. His work has focused on material salvage and re-use, and collaborative design on a variety of projects including residential, infrastructure, civic, and industrial. In addition to his professional experience in architecture, Jake teaches at the University of Washington since 2011 along with Professor Steve Badanes in the Neighborhood Design Build Studio which has won many design and community advocacy awards. Jake has lectured, and consulted at Auburn University’s Rural Studio since 2011, and was a visiting assistant professor there for the 2016-2017 school year.
